Small Business Saturday's: Love & Berries

Welcome back to our small business Saturday’s!!!
Here at Art by Holly Ryan it was all just myself starting out. Which meant every decision made and every supply purchased or every customer I sought after was completely done by me myself and I. At the time I didn’t think I would be able to do it and I wanted to run for help or some days just give it all up, but because of my small business community I was able to continue creating the work I love and make a name for myself! Anyone can build a business but to build a community; that is a constant reaping reward!
I am pleased to introduce to you all our nomination of the month, Love & Berries!

Hi! My name is Heather, and I am the owner of Love + Berries, Kingston’s first destination for custom chocolate covered strawberries!

I started my business back in September of 2020, but had the idea during April of 2020. I remember COVID was just beginning, and I was going for long walks habitually every day because of how bored I was. My place of work had closed, and I was no longer in school at that point. I thought to myself “what am I going to do with all of this extra time on my hands?”. Fast forward a couple weeks to my Mom’s birthday. My sister and I had been scrolling through TikTok (naturally) and came across a “Chocolate Covered Strawberry Bouquet”.

thought this was a super cute idea, and decided to make it! After posting the final product on my Instagram story, I got tons of replies saying “you should sell these!” or “that looks so amazing!”. Then the idea came to me. I knew that Kingston’s only store that sold chocolate berries had recently closed down, and that maybe I had a shot selling them. I pondered the idea all summer long, and decided to pitch it to my boyfriend after a couple glasses of wine one night. I remember him saying “It’s a great idea, but what if it grows too fast and you can’t handle all the orders on your own?”... I laughed.

Here we are today, and I am booking months in advance! Within a week of having my Instagram account up and running, I had an overwhelming amount of support, as well as orders. I couldn’t believe it. Now, after being in business for just about 6 months, I am honestly awe struck every single day by how fast I have grown, as well as the amazing people/ small business owners I have had the privilege of working with. I am forever grateful, and so beyond happy I decided to go for it! ❤️
